Dear Hannah:

I hope Winter Quarter is going well for you. I am writing to formally introduce myself and to discuss the novel Dracula with you. First and foremost, I am excited to work with you throughout the quarter as co-workers and peers. My name is Fionna and I am a second-year Art major with a Film minor. From your introduction on Discord, I am thrilled to know that you are interested in theatre and music (I have learned to play a few instruments as well!).

Onto the topic of the novel we are reading for Writing 2, this is my first time reading Dracula and I am thoroughly enjoying the read. The concept of reading a narrative through journal entries, letters, and other documents is fascinating. I love Bram Stoker’s writing style and how he illustrates the atmosphere as well as the characters. This genre of writing makes the stories within this larger narrative more personal, and I am interested in how everything will unfold.

Though we are only at the beginning of Dracula, there are many different aspects of the novel that interests me. One of my potential research topics is analyzing and comparing the female and male characters. I want to delve deeper into the writing styles between the characters as well as analyzing the topics or details each character chooses to include in their writing — in relation to Stoker’s overall writing style. Furthermore, I am interested in exploring how these findings relate to vampirism and the interactions between each character.

I am excited about your feedback and response. Further, I am interested in seeing your research and helping each other develop our ideas! Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Fionna
